In Singapore’s early post-independence years, passenger and freight trains ran along the Tanjong Pagar - Johor main line, with additional freight services on the Jurong Branch line, as this map shows. Like Day 7, the map from National Archives Singapore is georeferenced in QGIS, with the railway line manually traced.
The last service ran from Tanjong Pagar Railway Station in 2011, and bulk of the abandoned main line is now a linear park open to all — the Rail Corridor. Meanwhile, remnants of the Jurong branch line can still be spotted in some places, although the rapid pace of redevelopment in the city means such sights are becoming rarer as time passes…
